Privacy Policy

Wayline is built to run on your device. The short version: your location history, route history, saved places, and step counts are never uploaded to a Wayline account or personal cloud profile. We don't sell or share that data.

What stays on your device

• Location. Used in real time to navigate, render the map, find nearby places, and anchor AR routes. Not uploaded to a Wayline account or personal cloud profile.
• Saved places and collections. Persisted locally in app storage. Not synced to iCloud or any third party.
• Step count, walking distance, and workout stats. Read on-device from Apple HealthKit when you grant permission, to show your walk stats. This includes steps, walking and running distance, and, when available from an Apple Watch, heart rate, active energy, and flights climbed. Not transmitted off-device.
• Route history and trip stats. Stored locally so the Stats tab can show monthly totals. Never uploaded.
• Your explored-area map. The streets you walk are recorded as routes on your device and painted onto your personal map. Country statistics are computed on your device from a bundled offline dataset. None of this is uploaded, ever.
• Apple Health walking routes. If you choose Import from Health, Wayline reads your past walking and hiking workout routes, with your explicit permission, and stores them on your device only. Wayline never writes to Health and never transmits Health data off your device.

Third-party services we call

• Apple WeatherKit. Sends your current coordinate to Apple to fetch weather, sunrise, and sunset. Governed by Apple's Weather Privacy Policy.
• Google Places (New) API. Used for AI search results, place details, and place photos. Sends your search text and approximate coordinates for AI searches, and the place ID being looked up for details and photos. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Anthropic (AI search). When you use AI search, the text of your request and an approximate location are sent to our server and to Anthropic to interpret what you are looking for. No name, account, or advertising identifier is attached, because none exists in Wayline. Governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Mapbox. Map tiles, geocoding, and turn-by-turn directions. Tile requests include the current viewport. Governed by Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
• PostHog (anonymous product analytics, opt-out). Aggregate usage events: which surfaces you open, how long sessions last, which features are tapped. No location, no contact info, no contents of saved places. You can turn this off any time in the app: Favorites, then the Stats tab, under Anonymous usage data. Governed by PostHog's Privacy Policy.

Permissions Wayline asks for

• Location (While Using the App). Required for navigation and Explore. Wayline does not request Always access and does not track your location in the background.
• Motion & Fitness. Powers the live step count and pace pill.
• Health. Reads steps, walking and running distance, and (when an Apple Watch supplies them) heart rate, active energy, and flights climbed to surface your walk stats, plus past walking and hiking workout routes for your explored-area map. Wayline never writes to Health.
• Camera. Used only for the AR Beacon view. Frames are processed on-device by ARKit and never recorded or transmitted.
• Notifications. Optional. Used for arrival reminders.

Every permission can be revoked any time in iOS Settings.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or share personal data with advertisers.
• We don't build a profile of you. Analytics events are anonymous and aggregate.
• We don't track you across other apps or websites (no IDFA, no ATT prompt).
• We don't store your location on any server.

Children

Wayline is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Diagnostics and feedback

If your iOS settings share analytics with app developers, Apple provides us standard anonymized crash reports. The in-app Report a bug button opens an email draft to us; it includes only what you write plus the app version.

Your choices

Analytics can be turned off inside the app: Favorites, then the Stats tab, under Anonymous usage data. Every iOS permission can be revoked in the Settings app. Because Wayline has no accounts and keeps your data on your device, there is no server-side profile to request or delete; deleting the app deletes your data. Changes
